Where two or three are gathered in my name

If there is one place where we should feel safe, surely it is the church. That is why, here at ICF-Noord, we have our Safe Church policy, a confidential counsellor (Marèns!), and why each year we set aside a Sunday to reflect together on this important theme. 

This year we will be looking at Matthew 18. Jesus speaks surprisingly practically about what to do when a brother or sister sins against you. He even gives us a simple step-by-step approach: speak to them privately; if that doesn’t help, involve one or two others. Very simple. And yet… hardly anyone actually follows it. 

Why do we find it so difficult to confront one another? Why is it so much easier to talk about someone than to them? And how can we speak the truth without losing one another?

In Matthew 18, we discover that being a safe church has everything to do with how we deal with power, sin and conflict. And right in the middle of this difficult teaching comes this hopeful promise: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

The Lords Prayer

Every Sunday, we conclude our intercessory prayer by collectively reciting the 'Our Father,' each in our native language. We wholeheartedly encourage you to join in! If you're not yet familiar with the text, you can easily find it on this website.
