The Dutch Language Café was open again on Thursday evenings from September to November and welcomed a very diverse group of thirteen different nationalities. The group also differed in terms of language skills. So, every evening after a short introduction we divided into four groups at our own level: from beginners to advanced.
During this period we covered basic topics such as: introducing yourself, shopping, culture, body and clothing, holidays and hobbies and it wouldn't be complete without a Dutch games evening!
The ten-week programme ended with a meal. All participants and volunteers brought something with them and everyone shared (in Dutch!) what he/she had brought.
Kees was a new Dutch volunteer this year and writes: “What struck me was that there was an open and warm atmosphere and that we also had a lot of fun with the participants.”
One of the participants, Janko (from Germany), says: “I look back on it quite fondly. Not just because I learned so much, also because of the people there. The volunteers were very nice and eager to help you. I liked the atmosphere that was created. It wasn't a school, high-pressure atmosphere. It was not a problem to ask questions.”
We are grateful for the organisers and volunteers. We would like to ask for prayer for God's blessing on the participants; some of them have also found their way to an ICF-Noord Sunday service!
The next Dutch Language Café will start in March 2024. Questions or registration? Contact Luca at lucakappinga@gmail.com.
